It's 2012, and rather than it meaning the end of the world, it means more political conventions and a focus on electoral politics within the United States. But activists in Tampa Bay are preparing to show an alternative to politics as usual through creative actions and teach-ins opposing the Republican National Convention while offering up a vision of what is possible at large mobilizations and in the world. Will 2012 be the Final Election of Lesser Evilism?
Shamus Cooke
2012-08-14 8:54 AM
Just when the Obama campaign couldn’t appear any less inspiring, Paul Ryan was put forth as the Republican vice presidential candidate. Suddenly team Obama was supplied with enough political munitions to scare every last American over the possible Ryan destruction of Medicare, Medicaid, cuts to Social Security and the various other evils inherent in his proposed national budget. Consequently, many Liberals and Leftists across the spectrum are now focused on preaching the horrors of a Republican presidential victory and thus the necessity of re-electing Obama. (image/jpeg)

Correlation of CO2 in atmosphere, seawater and seawater pH (acidity)
kyle
2012-08-09 1:19 AM In a new study marine scientists have warn that the rate of ocean acidification presently occurring is unprecedented in the last 300 million years. This is due to dissolving carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, much of which human activity has contributed over the last 200 years through the use of fossil fuels. The extent and rate of acidification enhances the prospect for a mass marine extinction event this century. Research in paleoclimatology and oceanography has revealed that anthropogenic climate change is driving Ocean Acidification threatening marine ecosystems. (text/plain)

Syria’s “Liberated” Future: Ethnic-Religious Cleansing and Genocide
Shamus Cooke
2012-08-06 7:21 AM A fascinating shift has happened in the U.S. mainstream media: After a year of anti-Syria war propaganda and lies, glimmers of truth are making their way into the public’s view. Inequalities, Taxes, and More Inequalities
Ann Robertson and Bill Leumer
2012-08-04 2:27 AM Thanks to Occupy, most working people are well aware of the growing inequalities in wealth. But for those who lack the specifics, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich provides a useful overview:
“…the rich have been getting a larger and larger portion of total income. From 9 percent in 1980, the top 1 percent's take increased to 23.5 percent by 2007. CEOs who in the 1970s took home 40 times the compensation of average workers now rake in 350 times.” (“Confessions of a Class Warrior,” August 22, 2010).

STOP Imperialist War against Syria
Jose Maria Sison
2012-08-03 6:35 AM
We, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), condermn in the strongest terms the duplicitous scheme of the US and NATO in instigating, funding and arming the so-called Syrian National Council and Free Syrian Army to seek the violent overthrow of the Assad government in Syria and at the same time pushing a “peace plan” and then a “transitional government” under the auspices of the UN in order to politically outmanuever the Assad government and the anti-imperialist and democratic forces.
