text Big, Easy Iraqi Style Contracts Flood New Orleans Pratap Chatterjee, Special to CorpWatch 2005-09-29 4:49 PM
Multinationals friendly with President Bush's neocon administration are being awarded large contracts in New Orleans. Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton), and Bechtel profit from the war in Iraq caused by George Bush, and from the hurricane katrina and rita disasters. These companies are paid billions. They are profiteering at the expense of the people of New Orleans who have lost their homes and jobs. At the same time workers will be exploited, because George Bush has suspended the minimum wage in the region. Contracts should be given to local companies, and if workers are going to earn enough to rebuild their lives, they need to be paid a real wage rate. Get trade unions to help you organize to insist on a living wage. (text/plain)
