rtna
2006-05-27 3:54 PM July 15th will be an International Day of Action Against Climate Change. As G8 energy ministers promise trillions in new subsidies to the industries destroying our planet and our future, we will take action to shut them down! This is a call for autonomous, decentralized actions appropriate for your town, city, or bioregion. Use this international day of action to support local struggles against oil refineries, gas pipelines, strip mines and coal-fired power plants. Disrupt the financial backers of the fossil fuel industry. Host teach-ins to spread sustainable post-petroleum living skills. Find a weak point in the infrastructure of resource exploitation and throw a literal or symbolic wrench in the works. Visit your local polluters and give 'em hell! (text/plain)

The bull session lead to more perpetual war propaganda, including an agreement to keep troops there until the new Iraqi government of occupation “takes control.” Protesters expected at the confab, include Ann Wright, who resigned her State Dept. job rather than endorse the Neocon-inspired war. Should Noam Chomsky Reset His Compass?
William Hughes
2006-05-23 8:51 PM
Noam Chomsky was interviewed for the 2005 book, “Imperial Ambitions.” In it, he addressed the Iraqi War, but he failed to take on the hawkish Neocons. Chomsky said the war was about the “control of oil.” He also ignored the influential Israeli Lobby’s role in agitating for the conflict. In the introduction, a colleague said that he “misses nothing.” Question: How can that be true, if Chomsky missed the six ton elephant in the room - the Israeli Lobby? (image/jpeg)
Forensics report on Levee Failures
Christian Roselund
2006-05-23 3:00 PM A group of forensics experts led by some professors from UC Berkeley released a damning 738-page report on the levee failures during hurricane Katrina. They found a system that was "pervasively flawed" (surprise, surprise), and said that the failure was at all levels of government, including the Feds, the local levee board, and to a lesser extent the Army Corps of Engineers.
The website below contains a .pdf (adobe acrobat file) of the entire report (audio/mpeg + 2 comments)

Sheehan Labels Bush’s White House: “A Crime Scene!”
William Hughes
2006-05-18 11:56 PM
On May 18, 2006, activists attempted to deliver a “Don't Attack Iran” Petition, which was signed by over 43,000 individuals, to a White House official. The bureaucrat refused to accept it, despite the fact that the Right to Petition the government for a redress of grievances is a right older than the Constitution and a cornerstone of the First Amendment. A defiant Cindy Sheehan then labeled George W. Bush’s White House: “A Crime Scene!” (image/jpeg)
