text 1975, Angola: Mercenaries, Murder and Corruption COAT 2008-10-20 2:46 AM
Just returned from the evacuation of Saigon, I put together the CIA's task force and manage the secret war under the supervision of the CIA's Africa Division chief and the NSC's Interagency Working Group on Angola. The FNLA forces numbered a hundredth of what Roberto had claimed. We decided to co-opt Savimbi and UNITA into our program. (text/plain)

text Stimulus can put Main Street on the road to recovery The Star-Ledger 2008-10-18 2:14 AM
A fiscal stimulus of $300 billion to $400 billion -- about equal to the amount of spending wiped out by the decline in house prices -- will avert a deep downturn and put the economy back on the path to growth. The stimulus package should include temporary measures to boost consumption and to enable states and municipalities to maintain services such as extending unemployment benefits, temporary tax rebates to low-income households and block grants to states to support spending on Medicaid and child health programs, on education and training and on social services. Investments in infrastructure and in energy-conserving retrofitting of houses, businesses and government buildings would engage hard-hit construction firms and their employees while contributing to the long-term growth potential of the economy. Investments in literacy, education and health care reform would increase the productivity of American workers and businesses. (text/plain)

text The Terrorist Among U.S. Kenn Spacefield 2008-10-17 9:17 PM
("Papers, - Do You Have Your Papers?") Do you remember the Fred McMurray Building in Oklahoma City? It was blown up by an ex-army home-grown terrorist. Do you want this to happen again? How many Federal Government checkpoints will it take until a patriotic American goes crazy and becomes a terrorist? I feel it will be an ex-military person who has seen checkpoints blow up before and knows exactly what it is they are doing. (text/plain)

The School Facilities Master Plan for Orleans Parish, a city-wide plan for the placement of schools and land-use of school-district property, proposes that the George Washington Carver Senior High site, a pillar of the ninth ward community, be landbanked, which is urban-planning speak for “closed”. Carver’s alumni association strongly opposed both the landbanking of the Carver property and any effort to relocate the school to another site. (text/plain)

Socialist Vice Presidential Candidate Stewart A. Alexander says the measures that are being taken by the Fed, in the midst of this growing economic crisis is an indication that the U.S. economy has now passed the stage of a recession and is now in the early stage of a depression. “It will take more than printing truck loads money and bailing out the capitalists to prevent the U.S. and global economy from slipping into a deeper depression.” (text/plain)

text Economic Fascism and The United States Kenn Spacefield 2008-10-12 7:37 AM
If I do not believe in, trust, or support the US Federal Government, my home should not be in jeopardy. The Federal Government, whenever they choose, through the IRS, will take your home if you do not support them. This confiscation of property by the Federal Government is absolutely and unequivocally wrong, and it is illegal. (text/plain)

text Illegal use of Equity - Average and Normal Kenn Spacefield 2008-10-09 5:49 AM
People have made bad and improper investments with credit and equity. My family and friends (who I would say are "average" and "normal" Americans) have used home equity to buy other homes, invest in the stock market, to buy "stuff", and to pay expenses. This sometimes illegal and improper use of residential property equity is the problem! This equity does not exist yet, and no one knows when - or if it will. --- No one knows how much this equity may be - and it is all ready "at work", multiple times over. I have seen many people live off of credit, and use their money to invest. This "hyper-capitalism" of equity on equity - on credit and debt appreciation, is a flawed and failing economic model; and it is failing - just as it should. (text/plain)

Pie in the Sky: Downtown Development District Presents Land (and Sky) Use Plans
N.O. Council member Stacy head officiated the DDD meeting and was praised as a consensus builder by developers and preservationists alike for providing leadership toward a solution that addressed the concerns of both parties. Head, well known for her leadership in the demolition of public housing touted the DDD plan as one that put an “academic background and expert opinion around the issue,” and provides various stakeholders with influence over the final reports recommendations. This was in stark contrast with her leadership during the debate over the future of public housing when she eschewed attempts to forge common ground between those who sought homes for residents of the “big four” developments, and those who advocated immediately tearing down the developments: head was adamantly for demolition and entertained zero discussion with public housing residents and their allies about how to provide immediate affordable housing opportunities for working class New Orleanians. text US Real Estate: From Goldmine To Money Pit - Mortgage Backed Securities and Derivatives ar Kenn Spacefield 2008-10-07 6:23 AM
The mortgage debt problem is simple really, it has been a total mis-appropriation of equity. The equity lost on flat screen TV's, boats, new cars, vacations, and other living expenses; is equity lost forever. This loss of equity spent on consumer goods and expenses is a pyramid scheme of hyper-capitalism that is flawed and failing. Equity not spent on the property the equity comes from, is equity lost forever, a mis-appropriation of funds, and inappropriate; it is a failing economic model. (text/plain)

text US election symposium: London speaks ISN 2008-10-07 2:03 AM
Under Obama, the use of force will return to its place as America’s option of last, not first, resort and the US will work through, rather than purposefully thwart, international institutions, even those that do not act as creatures of US power. (text/plain)

text Lehman sought millions for execs while seeking bailout SFGate 2008-10-07 12:04 AM
The now-bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers arranged millions in bonuses for fired executives as it pleaded for a federal lifeline, lawmakers learned Monday, as Congress began investigating what went so wrong on Wall Street to prompt a $700 billion government bailout. (text/plain)

text ACORN, Public Housing & Post-Katrina New Orleans Mike Howells 2008-10-06 11:41 PM
Why didn't the movement to stop the demolition of the Big Four public housing developments in New Orleans attract the active support of ACORN? Wade Rathke, Chief Organizer of ACORN while the N.O. public housing struggle unfolded, blames the estrangement of his organization from the public housing movement, above all else, on anti-ACORN sectarianism. This article examines that charge. It also examines ties that ACORN developed, post-Katrina, with the Department of Housing and Urban Development(HUD) and the Rockefeller Foundation, two decidedly pro-demolition entities. The conclusion here is that the leadership of ACORN placed a higher priority on maintaining friendly and lucrative ties with HUD and the Foundation than it did on defending the Right of Return for public housing residents. Exports
Over the last two decades the gap between the rich and the poor decreased significantly. The trend slowed somewhat during the 90’s, but picked up again around 2001. The American middle class saw its income decrease over this time and the current administration did little to nothing to slow the tide. Whether displaced suburbanites feel satisfied their government has done all in its power to help them during the last eight years is questionable at best. (image/jpeg)

text Has Sarah Palin Been Picked as the Titular Head of the Coming Police State? Naomi Wolf 2008-10-05 3:30 PM
What's the plan? It is this. McCain doesn't matter. Reputable dermatologists are discussing the fact that in simply actuarial terms, John McCain has a virulent and life-threatening form of skin cancer. It is the elephant in the room, but we must discuss the health of the candidates: doctors put survival rates for someone his age at two to four years. I believe the Rove-Cheney cabal is using Sarah Palin as a stalking horse, an Evita figure, to put a popular, populist face on the coming police state and be the talk show hostess for the end of elections as we know them. Palin, not McCain, is the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal. The strategy became clear. Time magazine reported that Rove is "dialed in" to the McCain campaign. Rove's protege Steve Schmidt is now campaign manager. And Politico reported that Rove was heavily involved in McCain's vice presidential selection. Finally a new report shows that there are dozens of Bush and Rove operatives surrounding Sarah Palin and orchestrating her every move. (text/plain)
