The "expert" that presented at the recent Holy Angels Forum on the oil spill did not disclose inherent conflicts of interest. Also, the recent 50 experts panel that gave the thumbs up on the use of dispersants is embedded in NOAA. NOAA has downplayed the effects of the dispersants. (image/jpeg + 4 comments)

California Governor Candidate Stewart Alexander Will Challenge Obama’s Health Bill
Richard Perry
2010-06-05 3:34 PM Obama’s health care bill may qualify as the most non-democratic legislative act in U.S. history, where backroom deals were cut with U.S. Representatives and Senators and the voice of the nation was completely ignored. Many congressional Democrats will likely pay the price for this assault on democracy at the voting polls during the 2010 Elections. (text/plain)

NOPD SWAT Team Arrests Affordable Housing Activist
Jordan Flaherty repost
2010-06-03 7:30 PM Last weekend's protest was part of the Right to Return Weekend in New Orleans. The Right of Return Weekend was organized in conjunction with the May month of actions called by Take Back the Land Movement (TBLM). TBLM is a network of autonomous organizations affiliated with the US Human Rights Network (USHRN) dedicated to realizing the human right to adequate housing and community control over land.
Police say Ms. Sharon assaulted a Columbia Parc rental agent during her entrance into the building as part of last week's action. The rental agent did not complain about an assault and continued to work in the office the entire time of the occupation, including when police arrived. While there, police made no mention of an assault when explaining to the group why they should end their protest.
The truth is that the City of New Orleans did not arrest Sharon Jasper for assault, they arrested her because she dared to tell that truth and demand that public housing residents of New Orleans have the right to return to their homes. The arrest represents a clear effort by the City of New Orleans to represent the interests of the developers of the Columbia Parc while actively working against the displaced former residents of New Orleans. Sexual Offender As Label Versus the Zealotry of the Self-Righteous
Billy Bubba
2010-06-02 12:58 AM Sexuality and eroticism has always been “offensive” to somebody. Especially is this so in this land of the blue-nose, which descended here from a long Christian paranoia of anything erotic and unclean. But where is this psychology of “erotophobia” mentioned in California’s latest crusade against anything that falls under the rubric of “sexual offender?” (text/plain)

Comrade Mao-Zedong had been so clear in his teachings. Practice is primary over theory. He rhetorically asked in his philosophical writings, “Where do correct ideas come from? Do they fall from the sky? Are they innate in the mind? No, they come from social practice and social practice alone.”

When the Transocean Deepwater Horizon experienced a series of failures in the Gulf of Mexico culminating in the April 20, 2010 blow out and fire now filling the headlines, we witnesses a tragedy. We observed helplessly as eleven workers lost their lives and more were injured and/or scarred for life by the incident. The fire raged high and burned hot and the rig itself, acquired by BP in 2001, sunk two days later. Most of us had no idea what was to come next. (image/jpeg)

Permanent Destruction of Louisiana Marshland
repost
2010-05-27 1:52 PM The Louisiana marshland is being permanently destroyed by the multi-billion dollar profiting oil companies in the Gulf of Mexico Oil Disaster. The biggest user of oil, the US military, should be abolished as it simply exists to maximize profits of the capitalist class. The second biggest user is the private passenger auto which must be replaced with massive free public transportation. The oil companies actually claimed they had this disaster under control. The marshlands need an 80 mile levy built TODAY to save the coastal areas. British Petroleum makes multi-billion dollars a year in profit and must pay for the levies, cleanup, lost wages, lost businesses and everything else 100% TODAY. Brasschecktv has the story. Lynda Carson
2010-05-27 1:35 PM People across the nation are speaking out against the scheme to privatize 1.2 million public housing units, under a HUD proposal called Transforming Rental Assistance (TRA) initiative. The struggle against the privatization of public housing in Berkeley and Oakland has blossomed into a nation wide struggle against the profiteers that are trying to terminate public housing programs across the nation! On May 25, 2010, at a congressional hearing, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and many housing advocacy organizations from across the country spoke-out against HUD's proposals, and submitted written statements for the hearing record opposing TRA, including the Los Angeles Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness and other Los Angeles housing and human rights organizations.
