An article from December 2010 published in USA Today the Programme for International Student Assessment scores showed, just as in many years previous, that American students are far below the top scoring nations in the world academically. In the rankings America is, out of 34 nations, listed as “14th in reading, 17th in science and 25th in math.” (http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2010-12-07-us-students-international-ranking_N.htm) It was not always this way. There was a time American students ranked consistently towards the tops of those lists. Though times change, what changes can tell us a lot about the times in which we live and those we may be headed towards. (image/jpeg)

A powerful wave of anger among the poor and unemployed Arab masses shakes the young, voracious and brutal capitalism of the North African and Middle Eastern countries supported by the old and bloody capitalism in Europe and America. Immigrants Fight to Remain in N.O. with 24 Hour Vigil Outside Sheriff's Office, Lawsuit
Matt Olson
2011-02-03 5:57 PM
On what feels like the coldest day of the year in New Orleans, members of the Congress of Day Laborers and their supporters held a 24 hour vigil in front of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office to press for their right to remain in the area.
A lawsuit, Cacho v. Gusman, has been filed by a member of the Congress against Marlin Gusman, Orleans Parish Sheriff, whose governance of the prison has resulted in blatant racial profiling and constitutional violations, alleges the lawsuit.
More to come. (image/jpeg)
