text Correlation of CO2 in atmosphere, seawater and seawater pH (acidity) kyle 2012-08-09 1:19 AM
In a new study marine scientists have warn that the rate of ocean acidification presently occurring is unprecedented in the last 300 million years. This is due to dissolving carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, much of which human activity has contributed over the last 200 years through the use of fossil fuels. The extent and rate of acidification enhances the prospect for a mass marine extinction event this century. Research in paleoclimatology and oceanography has revealed that anthropogenic climate change is driving Ocean Acidification threatening marine ecosystems. (text/plain)

text Out of the Slump: The Only Road Brad Forrest 2012-08-08 3:32 PM
A real analysis of the United State’s economic history is rarely discussed by politicians or media alike, since the conclusions that would be inevitably drawn would be out of step with what politicians are currently advocating. (text/plain)

text Syria’s “Liberated” Future: Ethnic-Religious Cleansing and Genocide Shamus Cooke 2012-08-06 7:21 AM
A fascinating shift has happened in the U.S. mainstream media: After a year of anti-Syria war propaganda and lies, glimmers of truth are making their way into the public’s view. This may be too little too late: the country is being torn at the seams into the nightmare of ethnic-religious cleansing and massacres. (text/plain)

text Inequalities, Taxes, and More Inequalities Ann Robertson and Bill Leumer 2012-08-04 2:27 AM
Thanks to Occupy, most working people are well aware of the growing inequalities in wealth. But for those who lack the specifics, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich provides a useful overview: “…the rich have been getting a larger and larger portion of total income. From 9 percent in 1980, the top 1 percent's take increased to 23.5 percent by 2007. CEOs who in the 1970s took home 40 times the compensation of average workers now rake in 350 times.” (“Confessions of a Class Warrior,” August 22, 2010). (text/plain)

text The Next Stage in the Destruction of Syria Shamus Cooke 2012-07-30 12:57 PM
The U.S. media has made its intentions clear: the 'rebels' attacking Syria's government must have more support to advance Syria's "revolution.” This was the result of the much-hyped advance of Syria's rebels into the country’s two largest cities, which the western media portrayed as a defining moment in global democracy. But "journalists" like these have blood on their hands, with much more in the works. (text/plain)

text Taxing the Rich and Its “Left” Critics Ann Robertson and Bill Leumer 2012-07-29 2:49 AM
In a recent article published on the website of Socialist Viewpoint, Chris Kinder criticized those on the left who call for raising taxes on the rich. Identifying himself as a Trotskyist, Mr. Kinder displayed particular displeasure with Trotskyists who embrace this demand. Yet, as we will argue, his arguments fundamentally deviate from the political-strategic framework established by Marx and Engels and developed by Lenin and Trotsky. (text/plain)

Echoing the story of David vs. Goliath, janitors in Houston are on strike and taking on such corporate giants as JPMorganChase and Exxon Mobile in an effort to pressure the janitorial companies they employ to agree to the workers' modest demands. It is these big business behemoths that are the real powers behind cleaning contractors such as ABM, GCA, ISS etc. By striking against these contractors, and publicly targeting these contractors' employers, the janitors are using their collective power in a showdown that has great significance for not only the Labor Movement but all workers. (text/plain)

text ALARMING NEW DRUG CRAZE DEMANDS BETTER EDUCATION Paola Martinez 2012-07-26 2:51 AM
The story of the “Miami cannibal” Rudy Eugene–the 31-year old Miami man who devoured most of a homeless man’s face last Memorial Day weekend–garnered much attention in the press, including the charge that he had been consuming “bath salts” – the recent designer drug popular on the street and legally sold in Florida under various names. text Pensions Under Attack Mark Vorpahl 2012-07-19 12:54 AM
On Friday, July 6, President Obama signed into law a bill that would renew transportation programs and extend low interest rates on student loans for one year. While this minimal gesture resulted in, no doubt, sighs of relief from those burdened by student debt, tucked away within the bill's pages was a little-noticed proposal to further erode the funding of workers' pensions. The bill was a brilliant sleight of hand where what it appeared to be giving with one hand distracted the public from what it was taking away with the other. (text/plain)

When the odds are stacked against you, figuring out exactly where you stand in the place you are can be difficult to ascertain. When you face those odds alone, gauging where you are can seem doubly hard. But there are ways in almost any situation to get your bearings, and often enough it simply requires paying attention and figuring a way to focus on the larger picture. It's almost never as difficult as it initially seems, and the very things that are supposed to be making life complicated can turn out to be working more to your advantage than against you.
