Nixon’s Watergate, JFK’s Murder: Connecting the Dots!
William Hughes
2005-06-03 11:50 PM
Richard Nixon was forced to resign because of Watergate and the “feeding frenzy” over it initiated by the Washington Post. Yet, this same Post has been silent about the Iraqi-related lies of George W. Bush! Why did the Post ignore the CIA connections to Watergate? Did a Shadow Government bring Nixon down because of his peace overtures to Vietnam and the Soviet Union? (image/jpeg)

 Filibuster Wars
Power Grab at the Height of the Empire
http://rwor.org/a/004/filibuster-wars.htm
The Senate was heading for a major showdown, as the Republican majority and Vice President Cheney conspired to strip the Democrat minority of their ability to even filibuster the most extreme judicial nominees.
Then, after playing chicken for two weeks, a "Gang of 14" Senators suddenly announced they had reached a "historic compromise based on mutual trust" -- and they announced that they had saved the Senate from destruction. And the media oohed-and-aaaahed over the last minute development.
But it quickly became pretty obvious, that nothing here was an obstacle to the most dangerous plans for remaking the courts.
And did the compromise "safe the filibuster" as the media said? In fact, the compromise said "If you don't take the filibuster, we promise not to use it." Which, if you think about it, gives the top reactionaries what they want.
Part of this "compromise" is that the Democrats immediately stopped their opposition to Precilla Owen and several other of Bush's judicial nominees -- these are people who are literally monsters of an extreme kind, who had been stalled in the Senate (in some cases for years.) So this "compromise" meant that these vultures are headed for powerful courts.
And, it is also clear that huge new showdowns lie just ahead -- as the White House and Senate brace for a struggle over putting extreme rightwing judges on the supreme court.
The following article (written just before the "compromise" was announced) lays bare the stakes and dynamics of this whole crisis.

BIG NEWS ON MICROSOFT: Slavery to It Is Ending
Clayton Hallmark
2005-05-18 12:19 AM
The hundred-dollar computer will be the end of Microsoft's dominance and possibly the company itself. Do you care? Can Wal-Mart beat Microsoft? Since you are reading this on a computer, you are a slave to MS and you should care. Freeing us from MS and its robber baron could raise the country's productivity by several points. I'll show how it. To have fun, usable, efficient computers, it is necessary. To finally realize the dream that Bill Gates aborted, we need a computer that is: Cheap----Instant-On----Simple----General Purpose. Only India has one, for $200 ("good globalization"). We (the rest of the world) don't. It will take much more than Linux or open software, much more, as explained below. (image/jpeg)

RESISTANCE CONSCIOUSNESS with John Trudell, Lakota traditional (with audio links)
in solidarity with autonomous resistance!
2005-04-15 7:24 PM
John was a mainline leader/activist in the American Indian Movement in the 1970s. In 1979,his family, including 3 young daughters, were murdered. He was given access to the world of famous musicians and allowed to go *in and out of craziness* while he greived and began to write. His deep inner-seeking brings out gems by the dozen. The State works overtime to suppress his insights so that you never even hear of him, much less his depths. He's a traditional-oriented American Indian who is part of a broader resistance against the colonization of both peoples and *their minds* (not only indians!). Everyone should realize the value of hearing him out and passing the word on! (image/gif)

Why Mountain Justice Summer?
John Conner
2005-04-08 12:44 PM
Mountain Justice Summer is a call to action and a request for help from the people of the Appalachia mountains for help in saving our mountains, streams, and forest from greedy coal companies. But why are we asking for help? Frankly it's because we are losing. More than 1,000 miles of stream have been buried and destroyed and countless mountains and ridge tops have been blown up–gone for all eternity. Additionally, under the Bush administration laws have been altered to encourage and accelerate the destruction. The price of coal has doubled, and the destruction of our watersheds is accelerating and spreading out like cancer — not slowing down. Our state and federal agencies charged with protecting our environment are dealing out permits to these coal companies like crack dealers on the street corner — the coal is the crack — and the coal companies the addicts that will kill, destroy entire mountain ranges and bury streams in order to get their black fix. A16 Dallas Call To Action: Spank The Bank!
asad
2005-04-08 3:56 AM
Every year there is a national call to action in Washington, D.C., to protest the headquarters of the bastions of globalization that are the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. As activists living in Texas, we believe that the negative repurcussions of free trade are felt globally and locally alike, and should not have to travel some 1300 miles to the headquarters of these organizations to have our voices heard. Right here in Dallas we have a financial district that promotes the same kind of ruthless, profit-oriented international business model as the IMF/World Bank, yet survives each year with its inhumane business practices left unquestioned and unscathed. To quote our Zapatista brothers and sisters, "Ya basta, enough already!" (image/jpeg)
