Along Baltimore City’s Peace Path
William Hughes
2005-09-11 10:32 PM
On 09/11/05, demonstrators in Baltimore City turned out to protest rabid militarism and the Iraqi War. If this action also leads political hack, Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD), to speak out against the Iraqi War and to stop funding it, it will be a huge success! Her priority has been to give tens of billions of taxpayers’ money to Israel, while the Chesapeake Bay is dying from “dead zones,” and the levees at N.O. were in desperate need of repairs. Eric Barrow, an investigator for Orleans Parish Coroner's Office, said that FEMA told the local staff to leave saying that "they'd take care of it." Barrow, after spending nine days doing hurricane relief, is now at the Red Cross Shelter in Tucson, Arizona. He says he's leaving as soon as possible so he can get back and start working. Volunteers helping survivors are appreciated.

Pets are loved and part of a family. For people who do not have family or have lost family in the disaster, it is even more heartbreaking that their rescued pets would be taken away from them. People remaining in New Orleans should be given government assistance to leave WITH them, separated pets should be reunited, abandoned and feral animals should be rescued. Volunteer rescuers and carers can work through charities, donations also needed. If you are able to, please can you help hurricane survivors and their pets. (image/jpeg + 2 comments)

perhaps this has become a war/a battle for our self esteem—a collective
esteem held in our hearts that everyday is a struggle to maintain a
principle in the purity of lost lives in everyland which holds a truth.
The truth is still with those who have experienced the taunting, the
violence, the disrespect, the rapes, the harassment, the murders -- the
lies and manipulations. Those who have fallen and have had
compadres/conferes/comrades/bruhs and homies lost to the callousness of
the system and to the sociopaths what serve it and it’s ministry of
social engineering who will try and beat us all down into an
unconsciousness of passivity, (image/jpeg)

Neocon Goldberg Mocks Victims of Katrina
William Hughes
2005-09-03 5:58 AM
While New Orleans was reeling from the first deadly effects of “Hurricane Katrina,” Neocon Jonah Goldberg mocked the idea of placing some of the city’s refugees in the Superdome. This is the same warmonger who once wrote that the U.S. should “bomb Canada!” When France refused to go along with the Bush-Cheney Gang’s scheme to invade Iraq, he smeared the French people as a nation of “liars,” who were only interested in a “desire for oil.” (image/jpeg)

The New Orleans Disaster: The Real Face of “Capitalism of the 21st Century”
John Peterson
2005-09-02 11:39 AM
“And here it becomes evident, that the bourgeoisie is unfit any longer to be the ruling class in society, and to impose its conditions of existence upon society as an over-riding law. It is unfit to rule because it is incompetent to assure an existence to its slave within his slavery, because it cannot help letting him sink into such a state, that it has to feed him, instead of being fed by him. Society can no longer live under this bourgeoisie, in other words, its existence is no longer compatible with society.”
Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, The Communist Manifesto
