Fidel Castro: Who wants to be in the Garbage Dump?

Today, by mere chance, I remembered that the OAS still exists, when I read a cable posted on the Internet which contained an article by Georgina Saldierna, published in La Jornada, titled “Insulza rules out the possibility of re-admitting Cuba into the OAS”. No one even remembered the OAS. Note how retrograde this line of reasoning is. (image/jpeg)

Fidel Castro: What I wrote on Tuesday 19

That Tuesday, there was no fresh international news. My modest message to the people of Monday, February 18 had no problem being widely circulated. I began to receive news from 11:00 a.m. The previous night I slept like never before. My conscience was at rest and I had promised myself a vacation. The days of tension, with the proximity of February 24, left me exhausted. (image/jpeg)

Puerto Rico: All Out to Defend the Teachers’ Struggle!
Internationalist Group
2008-02-17 3:36 PM
We are on the threshold of a major class battle in Puerto Rico. Every day new preparations are announced for the coming strike of the Puerto Rican Teachers Federation (FMPR). With 42,000 members, a majority of them women, the FMPR represents almost all of Puerto Rico’s teachers and is by far the largest union on the island. The Shock Force of the Puerto Rican Police and National Guard are being readied to go after the strikers. The struggle of the Puerto Rican teachers affects everybody. The working class as a whole, students and parents, teachers and defenders of workers’ rights around the world must come out in defense of the FMPR! If there are mass arrests, the response must be massive blockades and spreading the struggle to the point of shutting the island down. In order to win this strike, it is necessary to prepare for a struggle not only of the teachers but within the whole workers movement against the pro-capitalist labor bureaucracy that sabotages the workers’ struggle. Above all, it is necessary to fight against illusions in and ties with bourgeois parties and politicians. It’s high time to begin building a revolutionary internationalist workers party. (image/jpeg)
Civil Resistance In the Age of Bush and Cheney
William Hughes
2008-02-17 11:58 AM
Civil Resistance to the wrongdoings of U.S. regimes has a long, and honorable, history. In his well documented tome, “Protesting Power: War, Resistance, and Law,” Professor Francis A. Boyle captures the essence of that story. He explains how “civil resistance” differs from “civil disobedience.” He also cites cases, many of which he was involved in as an attorney and/or expert witness. Professor Boyle's book is, indeed, timely. (image/jpeg)

No to French Military Intervention in Chad!
ICP
2008-02-07 7:01 PM
While the devastating rebel offensive marks time, the French government is showing its teeth. The sending a few days ago of several hundred soldiers to Chad to reinforce the thousand military already in place had been presented as intended to help expatriates (those local agents of imperialism which, it seems, still haven’t been bothered by anybody), the French military authorities said, without laughing, that they observed an attitude of neutrality vis-à-vis the internal affairs of the country. This so-called "neutrality" was reflected, however, by “logistical, medical and intelligence assistance” to the army of Chadian dictator Déby. (image/jpeg)

The Krewe Du Vieux parade came through town this year bearing the name "The Magical Misery Tour." As usual, the humor was "krewd", but dirty politicians were ultimately the butt of their joke. Without skimping on the political criticism, the parade acted as a much- needed catharsis and a celebration of an enduring New Orleans tradition. (image/jpeg)
