Obama Issues Pro-Labor Executive Orders
In what may be considered a gift to organized labor, President Obama issued a series of Executive Orders on Friday aimed at undoing Bush-era policies involving federal contractors. Issuing executive orders is a quick way to implement labor policy - and appease unions - without enduring the time and uncertainty inherent in the legislative process. Moreover, reversing the prior administration's executive orders has become a tradition whenever a new party takes over the White House. (image/jpeg)

Myth vs. Reality: The REALITY is the Employee Free Choice Act Helps American Workers
As more and more working Americans struggle to make ends meet, the ability to form a union is key to the economic stability, health, and well-being of American families. Union workers’ median weekly earnings are 30 percent higher than those of non-union workers, union workers are 63 percent more likely to have employer-sponsored health insurance, and union workers are 77 percent more likely to have short-term disability benefits. According to a recent poll, nearly 60 percent of Americans would join a union if they could. (AFL-CIO, “The Union Difference: Union Advantage by the Numbers.”) (image/jpeg)

Traumatic Cycle
Once called "battle fatigue" and "shell shock" Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), recognized as a clinical condition in 1980, has been a part of warfare for those serving in armed forces for as long as anyone can figure. People who suffer from the disease often experience vivid flashbacks so real some act out what they re-experience. Other symptoms may be feeling distant from others, severe depression, feeling unable to be happy. Having trouble falling asleep and suffering uncontrollable outbursts of anger may also accompany the disease. (image/jpeg)

Community Mobilizes Against Police Murder of Adolph Grimes
Community leaders gathered outside the police station today say Grimes was straight up murdered and that a full investigation can only be the beginning of bringing his killers to justice. The immediate police response to today's protest was to send out multiple plain-clothes officers to observe the demonstration. One undercover officer in dark glasses and a ball cap filmed the scene, recording the identities of those present. At one point there were six plain-clothes NOPD officers on Rampart Street observing the protest, one officer for every four protestors. Such responses to even the most peaceable of gatherings serves to intimidate and scare off otherwise aggrieved community members who fear police will target them if they are filmed at a rally. United For Peace will be creating artwork for a fundraiser to build a center for mothers and families of those lost to tragic violence. (image/jpeg)
