Bus riders on the back of the stimulus bus
Highway and bridge lobbyists trumped mass transit riders in the final stimulus bill. Mass transit authorities around the country seem to be in line for token stimulus funds, but only for new building projects, not for immediate operating support to stave off fare hikes, service cuts, and job lay-offs. Imperial nuclear power
Anyone who might be persuaded by the argument that nuclear power is a clean, green "solution" to global warming , including California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and San Francisco Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom, should consider the devastating impact of uranium mining, the first step in the nuclear process, on indigenous peoples and environments all over the world. Barack Obama has not been to the mountaintop, not in Appalachia
Barack Obama hasn't been to the mountaintop, not in Appalachia. Or, if he has, he wasn't moved, and he doesn't care; his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved 42 out of 48 permits to blow up Appalachian mountains---mountaintop removal (MTR) coal mining permits. (image/jpeg)

Clean green nuclear war machine
Most world class planet and people trashers, including Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, Peabody Coal, Dupont, Dow Chemical, Coca Cola, Barrick Gold, Monsanto, Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Eison, and, even Halliburton, have all given their corporate images the new Green Brand, as have Lockhheed-Martin, Northrup Grumman, General Dynamics, and even the Pentagon. The Governator & the Goober & Ele
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who now aspires to succeed him, both think that the rest of the world, and, most of all Detroit, should get hip to California's cutting edge environmental fashion. Both do their part for the planet by owning $100,000 plus, all-electric Teslas, the new cars for the stars and star politicians. (image/jpeg)

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom rides the big wave
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom now aspires to succeed Arnold Schwarzenegger as California's Governor Greenwash II. Newsom recently came out for mega wave energy, meaning Pacific Gas'n Electric wave energy, which is adamantly opposed by environmental activists on California's North Coast, in Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. Newsom is virtually joined at the hip with PG&E, which also relies heavily on natural gas imports from the Gulf Coast, via the Henry Hub. (image/jpeg)

The fate of the people, the planet, and the Outer Continental Shelf
If we created a social safety net that sustained us, people, then we might sustain the environment, instead of behaving desperately and destructively, by chasing wealth, or working at environmentally destructive jobs, out of fear for our very survival and that of our families. (image/jpeg)

Has Change Come to Post-Katrina New Orleans?:Bush, Obama, and the First 100 Days
As people in the U.S. and around the world make their evaluation of President Barack Obama’s first one-hundred days, many--that is, those that truly wanted a break from the racist, militarist, anti-working class policies of the Bush regime--are coming to the conclusion that the ‘change’ his campaign promised seems to have turned into ‘more of the same’. Drilling for war, offshore.
More domestic drilling, whether in the Outer Continental Shelf, or the Interior, will only feed the dirty energy infrastructure sustained by perpetual war, in the Middle East and in Africa Americans pay the highest gas taxes in the world---federal taxes, more than half of which go to the largest and most lethal military in history, to fight the War on Terror. To drill or not to dril, for oil and gas, on the Outer Continental Shelf?
On April 17th, in San Francisco, Barack Obama's Interior Secretary Ken Salazer, held the last of four hearings on the extension of oil and gas drilling leases, into all 1.7 billion ocean acres in the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), and, on wind-and-wave versus oil-and-gas energy. Salazar had traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Anchorage, Alaska, for the first three hearings, which were like this week's, videocast and then archived for review, as the public comment period on the fate of the OCS continues, until September 21, 2009. Interior Dept. Hearing - Opening vast new portions of the Gulf to oil and gas drilling
Gathered today on the posh Uptown campus of Tulane University in New Orleans a crowd of two hundred citizens, the vast majority of them older white men dressed in conservative grey and blue suits, most of them representing oil and gas companies, gathered to hear and be heard by the Obama administration's Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar. The event was equal parts sales pitch and public hearing on a major new energy plan being proposed for the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) by the administration. (image/jpeg)
