Kezia Kamenetz
2011-08-08 2:27 PM These are the words of the speakers at the ALEC protest, including veteran organizers Malcom Suber, Jordan Flaherty and a representative from Critical Resistance New Orleans. Each speech is about 5-10 minutes long. (audio/mpeg)
ALEC Conference Protested in New Orleans, 1 Arrest
Nola Anarcha
2011-08-08 12:37 AM So, ALEC came to town. Anarchists decided it was worth going to, even though their is some group of rich conservatives or businesspeople meeting in our city every week, and ALEC is no worse than other lobbyist activity to us. The difference between lobbying and ALEC that got liberals excited to protest it was that their unions and progressive lobbying groups are not allowed a seat at the table inside ALEC. They want equal access, naieve to the reality of increasing corporate money, and therefore power, that makes the liberals easy to brush aside. (text/html)

Danziger Officers Found Guilty - Statements of Madison Family :
Statement of Lance Madison
I am thankful to have some closure after six long years of struggling for justice. I am most grateful to my family, and especially my brother Romell. Without the support and hard work of my family, I might still be in prison on false charges, and the truth about what happened on the Danziger bridge might never have been known. We will never be completely healed because we will never have Ronald back.We hope that our efforts will help bring some justice not only to our family but to all the other families who have suffered, as well as our entire community. 2011-07-31 3:47 PM "We know jailing the Danziger 7 killers will do nothing to change the system that is surely creating new officers just like them at this very minute. The only way justice can be served, and people of color and poor people can be safe, is to get rid of the police altogether!" (text/html)

Why To Protest the ALEC Conference in New Orleans, August 5th
Nola Anarcha
2011-07-19 1:47 PM The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is coming to town! They are a bunch of nasty fuckers who bring corporations together with state legislators so corporate lawyers can hand pre-written bills to the politicians, who then try to get the bills passed in their state legislatures. Did New Orleans Media Ignore Police Violence After Hurricane Katrina?
Jordan Flaherty
2011-06-28 5:20 PM Opening arguments begin today in what observers have called the most important trial New Orleans has seen in a generation. It is a shocking case of police brutality that has already redefined this city’s relationship to its police department, and radically rewritten the official narrative of what happened in the chaotic days after Hurricane Katrina. Five police officers are facing charges of shooting unarmed African-Americans in cold blood, killing two and wounding four, and then conspiring to hide evidence. Five officers who participated in the conspiracy have already pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against their fellow officers. (text/plain + 1 comment)

The Old Money Hierarchy and Luncheon Clubs Make Class Mutiny Easy!
nola anarcha
2011-05-26 3:53 PM In New Orleans, old money families have controlled the social, economic, and political life of our city for centuries. While these feudal lords currently represent an older form of hierarchical power that relies on extremely racialized and extremely gendered structures, more contemporary forms have recently elbowed their way into some spheres of influence (which was a necessary requirement for the continued reproduction of capitalism). However, the white old money elites still (mis-)rule much of New Orleans and are squarely to blame for the severe inequalities that still exist in our city. (text/html + 1 comment)
