p4p
2005-09-05 4:23 PM WE ARE ANNOUNCING THAT PASTORS FOR PEACE IS NOW ORGANIZING AN EMERGENCY AID CARAVAN TO LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI. We see an opportunity to do what our government has not done and does not intend to do: to reach out quickly to those who hunger and thirst. We cannot fail to respond to the needs of our sisters and brothers; neither can we remain silent in the face of our government's racism and callousness. (text/plain + 3 comments)

Thirty minutes later this report was changed to state that the “looters” had fired on contract workers crossing a bridge and that is why they were killed. Police Murder Five in New Orleans
David
2005-09-04 8:18 PM Two days after Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco told police and National Guardsmen to “shoot to kill” people looting in New Orleans, the New Orleans Police Department has shot at least five people dead, according to the BBC. The killings come during a government attempt to evacuate refugees from New Orleans, eight days after category four Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, wrecking destruction and killing thousands of people. The five people killed were reportedly part of a larger group crossing a bridge while carrying weapons, but there is no indication that the group incited the conflict with the police.

By Andrea Garland of Get Your Act On and member, Green Party of Louisiana. The entire city of New Orleans is under evacuation orders. I just spoke to my friend Daniel in the Bywater (9th ward).
