Big, Easy Iraqi Style Contracts Flood New Orleans
Pratap Chatterjee, Special to CorpWatch
2005-09-29 4:49 PM Multinationals friendly with President Bush's neocon administration are being awarded large contracts in New Orleans. Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton), and Bechtel profit from the war in Iraq caused by George Bush, and from the hurricane katrina and rita disasters. These companies are paid billions. They are profiteering at the expense of the people of New Orleans who have lost their homes and jobs.
At the same time workers will be exploited, because George Bush has suspended the minimum wage in the region.
Contracts should be given to local companies, and if workers are going to earn enough to rebuild their lives, they need to be paid a real wage rate. Get trade unions to help you organize to insist on a living wage. (text/plain)

Please let people know that www.petfinder.com will have many more photographs of pets rescued in New Orleans and Louisiana. Tell evacuees and tell them to phone animal shelters and check pet rescue web sites now to find if their pets have been rescued. Volunteers are needed to feed, keep pets clean, and look after and rescue the animals at Louisiana shelters, and animal charity shelters that are looking after evacuee pets from New Orleans. Keep rescuing, but make sure you record where an animal is found, and that you post that information and a photograph on petfinder.com so that families can check for their family pets. Foster homes are needed and shelters have pets available for adoption. Keep calling George Bush and the federal government to let them know you want the patrols of National Guards and the army to be involved in mandatory rescues of animals. As many people as possible are needed to rescue and care for the animals of Louisiana. They need help now. (image/jpeg)
