Jena 6: Mychal Bell's Sentencing Delayed
Matt Olson
2007-07-30 3:46 AM The July 31 sentencing of Mychal Bell, who was controversially convicted by an all-white jury of second-degree assault and conspiracy, has been delayed until September 20. The reasons are not especially clear, although Bell has taken on new counsel provided pro bono. Bell could be put in jail for a maximum of 22 years for a fistfight at school in which he says he is innocent. (text/plain + 3 comments)

Quigley: Injustice in Jena: The 'White Tree'
Repost
2007-07-15 8:27 PM In a small still mostly segregated section of rural Louisiana, an all white jury heard a series of white witnesses called by a white prosecutor testify in a courtroom overseen by a white judge in a trial of a fight at the local high school where a white student who had been making racial taunts was hit by black students. The fight was the culmination of a series of racial incidents starting when whites responded to black students sitting under the "white tree" at their school by hanging three nooses from the tree. 2007-07-11 6:55 AM RAND, who put out a great book about the WTO protest called Networks and Netwars, are an analytical think tank who look at situations realistically but are very pro-government, so it is very interesting and informative usually to read their take on major events, because they will concede the actual facts of an event in order to better analyze what realistically will happen in the future in order to allow power to be ready for the future and maintain their power in the future.
