T.I. Gets Arrested-This May be deeper Than You Think
Ytzhak
2007-10-22 11:14 PM
...Behind the scenes, T.I. played a big role in the relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, where he provided money and manpower from his construction company. People who know T.I. have long spoke about him being a cat that has some keen political awareness which wasn't always reflected in his music, but as he was starting to become more situated in this music industry, the word was that we were going to start hearing T.I. step up and speak out more to address key issues....His arrest like it or not overshadows the outrageous hate filled on air commentary from Fox News anchor John Gibson who blamed Hip Hop and Black people for the recent school shooting at an alternative high school in Cleveland, Ohio. Initially he thought the alternative school was one for delinquents and had no idea that it was a school for academically gifted youth. He saw Black faces and just assumed. Next he naturally assumed the shooter was Black and instead of showing some sort of contrition when he discovered the shooter was a white boy who listened to Marilyn Manson, he still tired to blame it on Hip Hop by making rascist comments like 'the minute I heard the kid shot himself I knew it wasn't your classic hip hop shooting, because they don't kill themselves. They shoot and walk away'.

david vitter, public housing & crime
mike howells
2007-10-21 11:24 PM In a recent opt-ed piece for the Times-Picayune U.S. Senator David Vitter justified his arguement against the Gulf Coast Housing Recovery Act , in part, by asserting that it fuels violent crime. This article examines official statistics regarding public housing and violent crime in New Orleans to test the validity of Vitter's assertion that public housing breeds violent crime. This study reveals that the mass demolition of New Orleans public housing in the 1990s and 2000s has not helped alleviate the homicide problem in Louisiana's largest city. (text/plain + 1 comment)
Letter from Family Evicted by Chase Bank and Toni Tannen Realtor
Carmen Anderson
2007-10-21 5:51 PM Introduction from a neighbor:
Miss Carmen, an amazing grandmother, friend and activist, and the children she raises, live around the corner from our house in the 7th ward. 2 days ago they were all evicted from their home--the home carmen has lived in for 13 years-- another example of greed and apathy that exists post-Katrina (there was a realtor there just as they were moving their belongings out, hungry to sell the place). i visited her and the kids last night at the hotel they are staying; it's a temporary situation for 3 days and then they don't know where they will go. she wanted to spread the word about what happened and expose that such injustice still occurs here in New Orleans. she knows she's not the only one and hopes that through communicating her story, it will help not only her family but so many others who are going through the same. 2007-10-12 3:31 PM According to a recent Times-Picayune article, the top fundraisers for the City Council At-Large seat vacated by Oliver Thomas, all have some pretty sinister backers- especially Virginia Boulet and Cynthia Willard-Lewis. The article by Gordon Russell named the top contributors to these campaigns, but only supplied some of the background information on these characters and who they represent. (text/plain)

Before and Beyond Jena
Mumia Abu-Jamal
2007-10-04 3:11 PM After the ravages of Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and its surrounding areas, hundreds of imprisoned people were transported to the Jena Juvenile Justice Center, in Jena, Louisiana, a place that became their nightmare. The place was so medieval and tortuous in its treatment of young people, that it was severely criticized by a federal judge as a place where people were "treated as if they walked on all fours," before it was closed. The Justice that Jena Demands
Xochitl Bervera
2007-09-29 3:58 AM I want to tell you about Emmanuelle Narcisse. He was a tall, slim, handsome young man who was killed by a guard at the Bridge City Correctional Center for Youth – a Louisiana juvenile prison – in 2003. Apparently, he was "fussing" in line, talking back to a guard. The guard punched him in the face, one blow, and Emmanuelle went down backwards, slamming his head on the concrete. It's Time for Bill White to Go (Commentary on Nazi's Threat against Jena Six)
One People's Project
2007-09-22 1:54 AM Well, like we expected, Bill White is getting his time in the sun again because he posted the addresses of the Jena Six. He is supposed to be on CNN tonight (Sept. 21) at 10:00 PM as if he has something important to say. We will go after him now. This is something we have sent out to our supporters earlier today when we saw that Bill decided to inject himself into the Jena Six affair. Floyd Cochran of Eye on Hate was just out in Roanoke, Va. letting residents know this is how he operates, and now that he has decided to threaten minors, is all the more reason why the FBI should stop "monitoring" and "investigating" and nail this idiot the same way they would nail anyone else. If they don't do it, they better have a damn good explanation, and if freedom of speech is not an acceptable answer. Now let's be real about this. Bill is a big talker, but never a doer. We have shown time after time from the times we have dealt with him up close and personal that when you directly confront him, he craps a load. And have you ever noticed he never tries anything around our stomping grounds of New York, New Jersey or Philly? He keeps his distance from us and other antifa, which would explain why every time he tries to post our personal information, it is always wrong. And whenever he does post the kind of information nothing ever happens. And we do have to take issue with CNN, because they always seem to be there to make him look larger than the gnat he is. Of course, we don't have to wait for anyone to deal with him. We can that ourselves. We have CNN's contact info for you to reach them at and to ask them what it is that has them so in love with Fat Tits. We also have the contact information for the Roanoke NAACP, who we have worked with for the past four years in regards to Bill. They were responsible for bringing Floyd to town last week. We will be back before year's end. (text/plain)

Building a fightback against racism from Jena to New Orleans
mike howells
2007-09-20 12:12 AM On Monday September 17th, federal judge Ivan “the terrible” Lemelle, appointed by Bill “I demolished 100,00 units of Public Housing” Clinton, gave his seal of approval to the Bush administration’s criminal plan to demolish thousands of units of viable public housing apartments in New Orleans. This vile criminal act, which is also supported by the Nagin administration and city council, will prevent the former, mostly African American working class Public Housing families from returning to the city. Furthermore demolition--the removal of thousands of rent controlled apartments from the market-- will only intensify the affordable housing crisis that all working class people face. (text/plain)

Public Works for New Orleans: Jeanette Gabriel and Adolph Reed
Democracy and Hip-Hop Project
2007-09-12 12:32 AM This article is a review and critique of Jeanette Gabriel and Adolph Reed's recent presentation on building a mass movement to answer the need for a public works program to rebuild New Orleans. We argue conversely that the mass movement struggle for its own autonomy, not outside the State, but in light of its experience in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. (text/plain)
