text The new Rome and the RNC duko 2004-08-20 8:25 PM

Have you read the 9/11 Commission Report? The one that John Kerry says should be adopted in toto by the Congress? The one that George W. Bush also applauds and supports (with a few amendments)?

The report states that "threats [to the U.S.] are defined more by the fault lines within societies than by the territorial boundaries between them.. In this sense, 9/11 has taught us that terrorism against American interests `over there' should be regarded just as we regard terrorism against America `over here.'" And then they conclude: "In this same sense, the American homeland is the planet."(p. 362)
(text/html)

It remains to be seen if activists involved in other causes will truly understand the indictment of the SHAC 7 in its broadest social and historical context, thereby showing solidarity with the myriad of SHACtivists and other direct action militants on the front lines of protest, making sure that their voices are anything but a whisper. Meanwhile, the animal liberation cause continues to grow throughout the world, establishing itself as both an heir of the great human liberation movements and a transcendent force that carries the fight for rights, justice, and equality toward its logical fulfillment. The struggle for “civilization” continues. (text/plain)
