Media Non-event of 6/26/2006
Captain May
2006-07-06 1:56 PM An important story was buried by the mainstream media last week: the 6/26 Senate Democrats hearing on Pre-Iraq War Intelligence. I offer this analysis of the media non-coverage of that damning (ergo, ignored) event. I hope you find it both enjoyable and informative -- and lament that no one else has done this bit of writing yet! Your servant, CPTMAY (text/plain)

And the Winner in Mexico Is… The Zapatista Other Campaign
Al Giordano
2006-06-30 10:10 AM But if Washington’s endgame in this year’s Mexican elections is to pop out a “Madrazo Surprise” the Mexican public is not going to accept it after being told for weeks that Madrazo and the hated PRI are out of the race? And, well, if Sosa’s supposed poll – it claims to have interviewed 116,000 voters, which, if true, would make it the largest of the year – is used as justification, the Sosa-Bush connection will get wide play South of the Border. Which means, just as in the scenario in which the IFE would declare Calderón the winner, a fast-developing national revolt in Mexico coming in July, with the added element of wide perception of Bush administration meddling in the process. And remembering the Great American Boycott of May 1, that revolt might even spread North of the Border (text/plain)

Courage To Resist: Aiding Soldiers Who Refuse To Engage in War
Kevin Zeese
2006-06-27 8:10 PM One of the most powerful group of voices in opposition to the occupation of Iraq are U.S. soldiers who come home and speak out. In particular, those who become so disillusioned and disgusted by the Iraq occupation that they refuse to return provide a special power that can help to end the nightmare of the Iraq quagmire. More and more soldiers are reaching that breaking point and saying they refuse to participate. As a result a support group has developed, Courage to Resist, that is aiding those who refuse to participate. (text/plain + 1 comment)

Road to Map to Starvation -- What's Next for the Palestinians?
William Hughes
2006-06-27 6:42 PM The topic under discussion was grim - "The Politics of Starvation: The Humanitarian Crisis in Palestine." In Room SC-6 of the U.S. Capitol, the Council for the National Interest (CNI) authored a public forum, the 18th in a series over the last few years, dealing with Middle East issues, and in particular, the Israel-Palestine (text/plain)
FACING A TOUGH RE-ELECTION BID, SAD SACK SANTORUM 'FINDS' WMD
Bill Gallagher
2006-06-27 5:24 AM Santorum sold his scoop as "critically important information that the world needs to know." It turns out Ricky Boy was describing old shells from the 1980s found in discarded munitions dumps. Santorum forgot to mention that, at the time, Saddam was our "friend" and Donald Rumsfeld was our special envoy to Baghdad. Rummy sipped Scotch with Saddam and provided him with satellite photos of those troublesome Kurds, which Saddam then used to pinpoint his poison-gas attacks. (An excellent article that deals with alot more than Santorum) (text/plain)
Richard Perle: A Serial Warmonger!
William Hughes
2006-06-26 5:08 PM
Richard Perle is at it again! He tossed a hizzy fit when the Bush-Cheney Gang decided to have “talks” with Iran over their disputed nuclear program. The Mother of All Neocons implied President George W. Bush was a coward. He said the President “blinked” and that the Mullahs had “glared” him down. Perle has no shame! He helped to create the disaster which is the Iraqi War. Now, he wants to set the stage for a repeat U.S. performance with Iran. (image/jpeg)
Santorum: We Found the WMD
Think Progress
2006-06-26 6:02 AM While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991. There are no credible Indications that Baghdad resumed production of chemical munitions thereafter, a policy ISG attributes to Baghdad’s desire to see sanctions lifted, or rendered ineffectual, or its fear of force against it should WMD be discovered. What’s Next for the Palestinians - Starvation?
William Hughes
2006-06-24 11:19 AM
Since 01/06, when the Palestinians elected a Hamas-dominated government, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have accelerated their brutal treatment. After Israeli PM, Ehud Olmert, appeared before the lapdog U.S. Congress on May 31, 2006, the IOF also slaughtered 32 Palestinians, including 10 children. On 06/23/06, Tim Rothermel and Laila El-Haddad, at a Capitol Hill forum, warned that the Palestinians may, eventually, face starvation, too. (image/jpeg)

Oaxaca Government Stages “Protest March” Against Striking Teachers
Nancy Davies
2006-06-23 7:35 PM OAXACA CITY, June 22: It looked like there were almost as many “observers” as marchers at today’s government-planned march against the striking Oaxacan teachers – although the Coordination of Police and Transit estimated about 10 thousand people, according to the local newspaper El Imparcial. The marchers were silent, carrying white balloons and some banners declaring support for education for the children. (text/plain)
