by Don Beck "It seems more like Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union than the United States" - Dr. James Hansen, NASA climatologist Keep the facts of global warming away from the American people.....they can't handle the truth. That is the message we are getting from this Administration who have placed political appointees to head key agencies in order to filter and even alter the scientific facts. text A Plea to Moms on Mother's Day reposted 2007-05-13 12:05 PM
The time and effort required for a new-born child is immense and truly only known by moms. Constant care and nurturing of a completely helpless baby is no easy task and one that is mostly forgotten and unknown, except on this one day a year when we give thanks to our moms. A mother's care is a special gift that is taken for granted most of the time. And, sadly, that is the way man is concerning Mother Earth. We have been taking and taking from her with barely any regard. (text/plain)

Dr. Gilbert Burnham on the 654,965 Death Toll in Iraq
One of the true horrors of the Iraqi War is the death toll of the civilian population caught up in that conflict. Its stunning conclusion: 659,965 Iraqis have died in the war as of July, 2006! On May 8, 2007, Dr. Burnham discussed that report. (image/jpeg)

A study published in the current issue of Geophysical Research Letters reveals that "the actual rate at which summer sea ice had shrunk per decade during the past 50 years was more than three times faster than an average of 18 of the most highly regarded climate simulations."(1) This is another in a growing number of reports that are showing that the globe is warming at an accelerated pace, not in the gradual steady incline that was expected by the scientists. “Pro Surge” Mikulski Is Paving the Way for Hillary!
Want-to-be president, Sen. Hillary “War Lite” Clinton (D-NY), recently gushed over U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD). She said that “Pro-Surge” Mikulski had “paved” the way for her. Indeed, Mikulski has done a lot of paving, especially with respect to the manufacturing jobs lost on her watch. In addition, Mikulski persists in supporting funding for the Iraqi War. Now, it has been disclosed that she knew the Bush-Cheney Gang was lying about the war. (image/jpeg)

text How to get out of Iraq for just $450 million ThinkPeace 2007-05-07 9:10 PM
If Nancy Pelosi and Congress really want the war to end and U.S. personnel to leave Iraq, it doesn't have to cost $100 billion or even $1 billion. For just $450 million, Congress could hire U.S. airlines to fly all U.S. troops (and contractors) home for good, in time to enjoy summer with their families. (text/plain)

Complicit Democrats Ripped at Pro Peace Rally
As a result of the Bush-Cheney Gang’s insane “Surge” strategy, 1,300 Maryland Nation Guard members will be deployed to the hell hole that is Iraq. On May 3, 2007, in Baltimore, a rally was held to protest that action. Maryland State Del. Jill P. Carter blasted U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin for funding the war and then saying that they wanted to “protect the troops.” She called that bizarre conduct: “politically schizophrenic.” (image/jpeg)

Film: Reclaim Power - voices from the camp for climate action (15min version)
In the summer of 2006, 600 people set up a Camp for Climate Action in the shadow of one of the biggest C02 emitters in Europe: Drax coal-fired power station in Yorkshire / UK. With over one hundred workshops on a wide range of topics, the 10 day camp was a space of collective learning, sustainable living and taking direct action on the root causes of climate change. The gathering that showed practical low energy solutions in action, culminated in a day of protest and mass direct action in an attempt to shut down Drax. (image/jpeg)

text Call for Submissions: Zine on Property Destruction Casey Ford 2007-04-28 8:15 AM
Entering the radical community, many quickly find themselves constantly hearing about debate over property destruction. Is it violence? Does it matter if it's violence? Is it effective? Is it alienating? And on and on. I've been hearing this argument pretty much since I regularly started attending protests. At this point, I almost don't want to deal with the subject. Naturally, you're asking, "Then why the hell do you want to make a zine about it?" (text/plain + 1 comment)
