Why your revolution is no liberation!
MAD Cologne
2007-06-18 2:47 PM
During the recent weeks and months a spirited debate developed in different German left wing newspapers and groups about the sense or non-sense, the perspectives and the means and goals of the mobilisation against the G8 summit. Different German and Austrian anti-fascist groups started a campaign to criticise a wrong analysis of capitalism widely spread in the anti-globalisation movement. In the context of this campaign several public discussions and lectures were held, a special webpage was set up but above all reader was published that contains a set of basic texts referring to this problem. This reader is available in German and English and will soon also be published in French in order to spread the debate also across other countries. Check it out: www.no-liberation-reader.tk (image/png + 3 comments)

Ground Zero illnesses come back to haunt Giuliani
Jerry Mazza/Ed Ward, MD referenced
2007-06-02 1:54 PM The first Times’ piece tells us that while “the city had a safety plan for workers, it never meaningfully enforced federal requirements that those at the site wear respirators.” It seems Hizzoner was obsessed with getting the job done post haste at any cost. One official from the Army Corps said, “Mr. Giuliani acted like a ‘benevolent dictator.”“ I would strike the benevolent from the dictator. He never let FEMA or the Army Corps take over the clean-up operation. (text/plain)
A Congressman of the People: Parren J. Mitchell (RIP)
William Hughes
2007-05-31 8:47 PM
Rep. Parren J. Mitchell, age 85, died on May 28, 2007. He served the people of Baltimore, MD, for eight terms in the U.S. Congress (1971-87). He was fighter for Civil Rights, who opposed the Vietnam War and pushed for the impeachment of Richard M. Nixon. Today, by contrast, Maryland is stuck with U.S. Sen., Barbara A. Mikulski. She supports funding for the Iraqi War, with no conditions, and condones the wrongdoings of President George W. Bush. (image/jpeg)

Another Victim of the Homeland Security State
William Grigg
2007-05-29 1:19 AM The bullet that ended the life of 29-year-old Army Ranger James Emerick “Jaime” Dean last December 26 was fired by a Maryland State Police sniper named Sergeant Danny Weaver. But the circumstances that brought about the lethal conjunction of Jaime Dean and Danny Weaver were engineered by the architects of Washington's open-ended “war on terror” -- both the foreign military conflicts in which Dean had served, and the domestic militarization of law enforcement that brought about his needless death.

Longshore Workers Honor Picket Line, Shut Down War Cargo Shipper in Oakland
The Internationalist
2007-05-20 11:03 PM
This can be an important first step toward the mobilization of workers power to shut down the war machine, but that requires a sharp struggle against the bourgeois politics of the antiwar groups and union officialdom. The OEA calls for money for schools not for war, as if it were a matter of budget priorities, and the PAC poster made a social-patriotic pitch to “Bring the Troops Home Now, and give them the care they need.” Such “peace is patriotic” rhetoric is a staple of the UPFJ, but all the antiwar coalitions make similar appeals to garner support from Democratic Party liberals. Revolutionaries and class-conscious workers, in contrast, emphasize that this imperialist war must be opposed by class war. (image/jpeg)
Refuting the deafs: chavism and anarchism in Venezuela
El Libertario's editorial staff
2007-05-20 5:15 PM * From the publishers of El Libertario goes our reply to the habitual expressions that the coarse right or the easy-going left used to attribute us; the same left that, inside and outside of Venezuela allows that the mirage of the Chávez pseudo-revolution impressed them. We could and would like to say very much more about this subject, however currently here there is the essential and concise information about our point of view that, even when it was expressed several times it does not implies that it does not have to be repeated. FEMA and the State Control of Grieving Communities
Jordan
2007-05-20 5:06 AM It has become clear through natural and "un-natural" disasters alike that communities must care for themselves and other communities in time
of need. The federal and state governments are not going to aid those who need it, they are going to "secure" and "manage". Non-profits and NGO's, while well intentioned and staffed by dedicated workers, do not utilize the organizing models needed when disaster strikes. (text/plain)
Anarchist relief workers forced to leave Greensburg, Kansas by police escort
Dave Strano
2007-05-20 5:05 AM On Saturday May 19, five members and volunteers affiliated with Kansas Mutual Aid, a Lawrence based class struggle anarchist collective, made
the trek back to Greensburg to again help in relief efforts in the
tornado ravaged city. A week earlier, four KMA members had traveled to
Greensburg on a fact finding mission to assess the situation there. What KMA members found was a militarized, entirely destroyed city where relief efforts were moving tragically slow. (text/plain)
Presidential Candidate: Immigrants Beaten Coast to Coast
Stewart A. Alexander
2007-05-20 3:26 AM On a day when Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton spent the evening in rallies with thousands of immigrants, to make amends for the terrible beatings that hundreds of immigrants and reporters received at the Los Angeles May Day rallies, President Bush, along with key Democrats and Republicans, took their tern beating up 12 million immigrants coast to coast.
