New Orleans Indymedia moved to a new website in July 2003 and as of August 11 is now officially part of the global Indymedia network! Our website has more features and a new look. We'll be making changes to our look over time but right now anybody can publish a host of new types of media including photos, video and audio.

Every reader is a reporter. We encourage people to take advantage of New Orleans Indymedia and get word out about what's going down in your neighborhood. Another world is possible and community open publishing is one tool that can help us get there.

From July 28th to August 1st, trade delegates will be meeting in New Orleans to continue negotiating their CAFTA agenda in secret without any form of public consultation. CAFTA, the Central American Free Trade Agreements, is a proposed commercial pact between the United States and five countries in Central America that is modeled after NAFTA.

Concerned activists and fair trade groups in New Orleans are organizing a series of protests and educational events to call attention to the negative impact CAFTA will have here and abroad. New Orleans Indymedia will have breaking news during the march on Saturday July 26, and we encourage others to post their stories, photos, audio, and video.

The U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA, will have a negotiating session in New Orleans, Louisiana between Monday, July 28 and Thursday, August 1st.

CAFTA is an expansion of NAFTA to Costa Rica, as well as a broadening of influence of trade agreements to interfere with a wider range of social policy. This includes agriculture and biotechnology, intellectual property rights and the right to affordable medicines, privatization of public services, and the right of foreign corporations to sue governments over health, safety, labor or environmental regulations.
